FLORIDA VS. TEXAS A&M BASEBALL FINAL SCORE, RESULTS: AGGIES SURVIVE LATE GATOR PUSH TO WIN COLLEGE WORLD SERIES GAME

The first three games of the College World Series all ended in walk-offs. Saturday night's finisher, even absent a final-inning stunner, did nothing to dull the excitement in Omaha.

With Michael Robertson on first and the Gators trailing by a run to No. 3 Texas A&M, Florida second baseman Cade Kurland got all of a 1-1 offering from Stopper of the Year Evan Aschenbeck. He thought he got all of it. The Florida fans thought he got all of it. But a leaping snag from right fielder Jace LaViolette over the wall brought down the would-be, go-ahead homer to preserve the lead.

Aschenbeck wasn't out of the woods just yet. He still had to get through superstar Jac Caglianone, who has hit the second-most homers of any player in college baseball in 2024 and is all but certain to be a top 10 draft pick in July. Following a lengthy plate appearance, Caglianone walked to move the tying run up to second.

Then Aschenbeck did what he so often has done for the Aggies and locked it down, fanning Ashton Wilson on four pitches to secure the 3-2 win and move Texas A&M up in the winner's bracket to face Kentucky on Monday.

Fans had to wait for the excitement to get underway, however, as weather caused a four-hour delay. When the game began, it initially seemed the Aggies might make the most of Florida wildness to get out to a large early lead. Texas A&M loaded the bases in the bottom of the second, and Travis Chestnut picked up an infield single to give the Aggies the 1-0 lead. Another run came across in the inning on a wild pitch to make it a 2-0 game.

The Aggies weren't done. Caden Sorrell blasted an 0-2 pitch from Liam Peterson over the head of Robertson in center to drive home Hayden Schott from first, pushing Texas A&M's lead to 3-0.

Texas A&M, opting for a bullpen game, received three, three-inning outings each from Justin Lamkin, Chris Cortez and Aschenbeck. But it was in the top of the seventh, with Cortez still on the mound, that Florida began to cut into the deficit. Tyler Shelnut led off the inning with a double, followed by a ground-rule double off the bat of Dale Thomas to break the deficit. A bunt moved Thomas to third, and a Robertson groundout brought the Gators to within one.

Florida threatened again in the eighth with Caglianone, Luke Heyman and Shelnut loading the bases, but Aschenbeck evaded trouble with a groundout to get out of the jam.

The Gators will now face NC State in an elimination game on Monday, followed by Texas A&M and Kentucky squaring off in a contest to decide who takes the leg up in the bracket.

(All times Eastern)

2:13 a.m. End of game: Wilson strikes out on a breaking ball away, and the Aggies survive a thrilling 3-2 contest.

2:11 a.m.: Caglianone walks. The tying run moves to second with Wilson, who is 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and a walk, coming up to the plate.

2:08 a.m.: Unbelievable finish brewing in Omaha. Kurland hits a missile to right, but LaViolette leaps over the wall to rob the leadoff hitter of an opposite-field, go-ahead homer. Now Caglianone will face Aschenbeck with two outs.

2:06 a.m.: Robertson gives the Gators some one-out life with an infield single to the shortstop. Florida will bring the top of the lineup to the plate with one out and a runner on first.

2:05 a.m.: The top of the ninth starts with a swinging strikeout of Donay.

2:01 a.m. End of eighth: Kent goes down swinging at a fastball away. The Gators will bat in the top of the ninth trailing by a run.

2 a.m.: Camarillo chases the down and out slider for the second out.

1:58 a.m.: Sorrell cranks a 1-1 pitch to right, but Wilson makes a nice running catch off the 109.5 mph liner.

1:55 a.m.: The call is confirmed.

1:54 a.m. End top eighth: Thomas hits a slow roller to second. Kent glove flips to first and the call on the field is that he is out. The call on the field is being reviewed, but it appears he was out by a split-second.

1:52 a.m.: A breaker away doesn't quite clip the outside edge of the plate, and Shelnut walks on seven pitches. Thomas, who is 2-for-3, will bat with the bases loaded and two out.

1:49 a.m.: Heyman rips a double over the glove of Grahovec at third. Caglianone stops at third. Shelnut will bat with the tying run 90 feet away and the go-ahead run 180 feet away with two outs in the top of the eighth.

1:46 a.m.: Wilson fans on a changeup away, then Shelton is caught looking at a breaking ball for the second out.

1:43 a.m.: The top of the eighth starts with a line-drive single to right off the bat of Caglianone.

1:41 a.m. End of seventh: Tailor-made 6-3 double play as Shelton fields the grounder, steps on second and fires over to first to complete the inning-ending double play.

1:40 a.m.: Schott takes a 3-1 fastball up the middle just past Shelton for a one-out single.

1:38 a.m.: Grahovac is caught looking at strike three on a fastball that paints the down-and-away corner.

1:36 a.m.: Florida turns to right-hander Brandon Neely to face Grahovac, Schott and Burton in the bottom of the seventh.

1:35 a.m. End top seventh: Kurland grounds out to second to end the two-run top of the seventh.

1:34 a.m. Florida scoring play: Add another run to the Gator total as Robertson grounds out to short to make it a one-run game. Texas A&M 3, Florida 2

1:32 a.m.: Donay greets Aschenbeck with a bunt to move Thomas up to third. Grahovac makes the throw to first to narrowly get Donay out.

1:28 a.m. Florida scoring play: The Gators are on the board in the seventh. Thomas hits a high fly to left that bounces just past the diving glove from Sorrell and bounds over the left-field wall. Shelnut scores on the ground-rule double. That will bring in Evan Aschenbeck to pitch. Texas A&M 3, Florida 1

1:25 a.m.: Shelnut sneaks a grounder under the glove of Grahovac at third and it goes down the left-field line for a standup double.

1:21 a.m. End of sixth: LaViolette is ruled out after the challenge, so the double play will end the inning.

1:19 a.m.: Nifty defense by Shelton, who fields the grounder from LaViolette and tags Appel on his way to second. His throw to first is not in time, but the Gators are challenging the safe call at first.

1:15 a.m.: Appel lays off a slider low to draw the walk. That will be the end of Jameson's night as Cade Fisher comes in to pitch for Florida.

1:13 a.m.: Jameson gets Chestnut to chase a down-and-away slider to lead off the bottom of the sixth.

1:09 a.m. End top sixth: Runners on second and third with no out? No problem for Cortez. Heyman flies out to right as Cortez goes strikeout, strikeout, flyout to preserve the shutout.

1:08 a.m.: Back-to-back strikeouts as Shelton goes down swinging. Cortez is an out away from getting out of danger.

1:07 a.m.: Cortez collects a huge strikeout as Wilson swings and misses at a slider for the first out.

1:05 a.m.: On the eighth pitch of the AB, Caglianone rips a 117.1 mph double down the right-field line. Kurland is held up at third on the hit as the Gators now have two runners in scoring position for Wilson, who has hit .353 this season with runners in scoring position.

1:01 a.m.: Big leadoff baserunner for the Gators as Kurland is hit in the helmet by a first-pitch, 97 mph heater from Cortez. He seemed fine after the HBP as Caglianone steps up to the plate.

12:57 a.m. End of fifth: Jameson works a quick inning as Sorrell grounds out to the mound, Camarillo's bunt-for-hit attempt is snuffed out by Thomas and Kent flies out to left-center for an eight-pitch frame.

12:52 a.m. End top fifth: Cortez keeps rolling as he sets down Robertson swinging with a slider.

12:51 a.m.: Donay chases a slider in the dirt, but Thomas swipes second on the swing and miss.

12:49 a.m.: Thomas pulls a base hit through the left side for a single.

12:47 a.m.: Shelnut leads off the inning by striking out swinging on an 87 mph slider down and away.

12:44 a.m. End of fourth: Burton bounces into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

12:42 a.m.: Schott goes down looking at a slider that bends right down into the zone. Two away in the bottom of the fourth.

12:39 a.m.: LaViolette puts a charge into a 3-2 offering from Jameson, but Robertson makes the catch on the warning track. But Grahovec follows it up with a screaming groundball single through the left side for a one-out knock.

12:35 a.m. End top fourth: Heyman pounds a 100 mph sinker in the ground to second, where Kent kicks off the 4-6-3 double play to get the Aggies out of the inning.

12:33 a.m.: Shelton comes up empty at a 91 mph slider down and in.

12:31 a.m.: Gators have something cooking for the first time today as Wilson lays off a slider down and away for a walk. Shelton due up with runners on first and second with no one away.

12:29 a.m.: Caglianone is plunked on the second pitch of the plate appearance.

12:28 a.m.: Chris Cortez comes in for the Aggies as Texas A&M turns to its standout long reliever with Caglianone coming up.

12:26 a.m. End of third: Jameson gets out of trouble as Appel grounds out to second on a rocket to Kurland to strand the bases loaded.

12:25 a.m.: Jameson cruises past Chestnut, getting the No. 9 hitter to chase a curveball low for a three-pitch punchout.

12:23 a.m.: Walks continue to plague the Gators as Jameson gets to a second straight 3-0 count, and again loses the batter on five pitches. The bases are now loaded for Chestnut.

12:21 a.m.: Jameson struggles with location facing Camarillo as he issues a five-pitch walk to the No. 7 hitter, who has now walked twice. Kent due up with runners on first and second.

12:17 a.m. Texas A&M scoring play: Peterson leaves a fastball over the middle of the plate, and Sorrell barrels it up over the head of Robertson in center. Schott races around to score on the double. That will also chase Peterson, who gives way to Fisher Jameson for Florida. Texas A&M 3, Florida 0

12:15 a.m.: Burton flies out to left for the first out.

12:12 a.m.: Schott leads off the bottom of the third with a walk on five pitches. That's already the fourth walk of the game issued by Peterson, who struggled with his command last inning.

12:08 a.m. End top third: Robertson moves up to second on a balk, but it doesn't matter. Kurland chases a changeup low in the dirt for Lamkin's sixth strikeout of the game. All three outs in the third came by way of the K.

12:05 a.m.: The Gators' first hit and baserunner of the game comes from Robertson, the No. 9 hitter and a lefty against a lefty, as he grounds a single up the middle.

12:04 a.m.: Back-to-back strikeouts for Lamkin, both on five pitches, as he gets Donay to swing and miss at a 93 mph heater up and away.

12:02 a.m.: Lamkin continues carving up the Gators. He just missed getting a called strike three with a 92 mph fastball, then gets Thomas to come up empty on an 86 mph changeup for strikeout No. 4.

11:59 p.m. End of second: The decision to intentionally walk LaViolette pays off. Peterson carves up Grahovec, finishing him off with a heater for a swinging strikeout.

11:57 p.m.: Appel comes up empty on a curveball down and in, then Texas A&M intentionally walks LaViolette to load the bases for the freshman Grahovec. He is batting .342 with runners in scoring position and .364 with the bases loaded this season.

11:56 p.m. Texas A&M scoring play: Wild pitch sails high and deflects off the glove of Heyman, allowing Camarillo to score and push the Aggie lead to two runs. Texas A&M 2, Florida 0

11:53 p.m. Texas A&M scoring play: Chestnut hits a grounder to third that's fielded by Thomas with a leaping grab. Thomas thought about throwing across the diamond, then tries to beat Camarillo to third, but he's late. Sorrell crosses home and the Aggies have taken a 1-0 lead. Texas A&M 1, Florida 0

11:49 p.m.: Kent rips a single through the right side. It was hit hard enough that Sorrell is unable to score and the Aggies go only station-to-station. Bases loaded now for Chestnut with the top of the order looming.

11:47 p.m.: Camarillo fights off back-to-back 3-2 pitches before laying off a low fastball that goes to the backstop for an eight-pitch walk. Solid at-bat by Camarillo to set up Kent with runners on first and second with one away.

11:43 p.m.: Peterson gets a quick groundout from Burton, but Sorrell gets the first hit of the game by bouncing a base hit up the middle.

11:38 p.m. End top second: Strong pitching continues for Lamkin, who has faced the minimum through two after Shelnut strikes out swinging at a low four-seamer.

11:37 p.m.: Heyman flies out to center for the second out.

11:35 p.m.: Shelton tries to bunt for a hit, but Lamkin pounces on it quickly and makes a rocket throw to first to nab the Gator shortstop.

11:32 p.m. End of first: Schott bounces out to first as Texas A&M is held scoreless in the first inning.

11:31 p.m.: Peterson picks up strikeout No. 2 as he gets Grahovec to whiff on a 98 mph fastball in the zone for the second out.

11:30 p.m.: The ruling on the field stands. LaViolette is safe at second.

11:28 p.m.: LaViolette swipes second, sliding in headfirst just under the tag of Kurland. Florida is challenging the call.

11:26 p.m.: The Aggies collect the first baserunner of the game as LaViolette lays off a 3-2 fastball that misses just below the zone.

11:24 p.m.: And Peterson starts the bottom half of the first with a strikeout of Appel, getting the switch-hitting catcher to swing and miss at a curveball.

11:20 p.m. End top first: Dazzling top of the first for Lamkin as he goes 1-2-3, ending the frame by catching Wilson looking at a backdoor breaking ball.

11:19 p.m.: Think Texas A&M was expecting Caglianone to pull the ball? The Aggies had four outfielders and placed the remaining infielders all on the right side. It doesn't wind up mattering as Caglianone hits a slow dribbler that bounces in front of the box and bounces off his shoulder as he started to run to first base for an out.

11:17 p.m.: A four-pitch strikeout starts the game.

11:17 p.m.: The first pitch from Lamkin to Kurland is looked at for a strike, and this game is underway.
