Join the illustrious Annika Sörenstam by becoming only the second player in history to return a card of 59 in the history of the LPGA.
It was this feat that was in question after the immense performance achieved by Céline Boutier during the second round of competition at the Dow Championship in Michigan. Eleven birdies, not the slightest error on the par 70 of the Midland Country Club, enough to reach the magic mark of 59.
The performance of the Frenchwoman, who notably lined up seven birdies in a row, including eight on the first leg alone, is as great as it is frustrating. The reason ? It will not be counted as such in the women's circuit record book.
The Dow Championship being a doubles event on the LPGA circuit, the card returned by Céline Boutier, in the four-ball format of the day, is therefore not counted individually, but as part of her total score alongside her playing partner.
this week Yuka Saso. The Frenchwoman's 59 (-11) therefore logically remains "anecdotal" with regard to the rules. The two young women also combined the tournament record score of 58 (-12) by only taking the better of their two scores.
For now, Queen Annika can still sleep soundly, her 59 (-13) obtained in 2001 at the Standard Register PING, still remains the one and only score in the history of the American circuit for ladies under 60 . Céline Boutier was born and raised in France in the Paris region. Indulging in golf from a young age, in 2014 she became the world number one amateur, notably winning the prestigious European Amateur Championships in 2012 and the British Amateur Championships in 2015.
Moving to the United States in connection with her studies in 2014 , she decided to turn professional in 2016 at the age of twenty-three. She achieved her first professional successes in 2017 on the European LET circuit and on the Symetra circuit, a secondary circuit linked to the LPGA.
Building on her results, she joined the LPGA circuit where she won her first victory in February 2019 at the Victorian Open in Australia and entered the world top 100.
