EX-BRUINS STAR JOINS MAPLE LEAFS

The Toronto Maple Leafs have added a Boston Bruins legend to their staff, hiring Marc Savard as a new assistant coach.

There was plenty of speculation over the prospect of Savard joining the Maple Leafs' staff, and now it has come to fruition. He and the Calgary Flames notably parted ways last month, and he was immediately viewed as a potential coaching target for the Maple Leafs because of it.

Savard was an assistant coach for the St. Louis Blues during the 2019-20 season, under current Maple Leafs bench boss Craig Berube. Savard is replacing recently fired Guy Boucher and is expected to help run Toronto's power play. Given how great of a playmaker he was during his career, this is a role he could be successful with.

It will certainly be strange to see a beloved former Bruin like Savard coach the Maple Leafs. However, given Toronto's needs, he could be a great addition to their staff.

We will need to wait and see how much of an impact Savard can make as one of the Leafs' assistant coaches from here.
