NEW YORK YANKEES TRADE FOR VETERAN INFIELDER IN DEAL WITH OAKLAND ATHLETICS

The New York Yankees acquired infielder J.D. Davis and cash considerations in a trade with the Oakland Athletics, the team announced Sunday.

In exchange for Davis, the Yankees sent infielder Jordan Groshans, a 24-year-old with a .590 OPS in 50 games at the Double-A and Triple-A levels with the Yankees this season.

To make room for Davis on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi to the 60-day injured list.

Davis was designated for assignment by the Athletics on June 17, but the Yankees clearly wanted to make a move to acquire the veteran.

A corner infielder, Davis appeared in 39 games with the Athletics this season. He has a .236 average with four home runs, five RBI, nine walks and a .670 OPS in 135 plate appearances.

In 634 career games, Davis has a 98 wRC+ and a 112 OPS+. Over his last 24 games, Davis was hitting .275 with a .727 OPS.

After Giancarlo Stanton was placed on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring injury, the Yankees recalled Oswald Peraza from Triple-A.
