NEBRASKA'S AXELINA JOHANSSON WINS SWEDISH NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, QUALIFIES FOR OLYMPICS
Nebraska track and field athlete Axelina Johansson has qualified for the Summer Olympics in Paris.
The Sweden native won the Swedish National Championship by throwing a shot put of 18.97m last weekend. It also qualified her for the Swedish Olympic Team.
Johansson is an accomplished athlete for the Cornhuskers, as she won the title in 2023 at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships and finished in third place twice in 2022 and 2024.
She also earned a bronze medal in the shot put at the 2023 European Athletic Team Championship and finished 13th in the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August 2023.
Johansson will compete in the women's shot put qualifications at the Paris Olympics on Aug. 8.
