'EXCELLENT MEETING WITH OUR CHAMPIONS!': PM NARENDRA MODI HAD A 'MEMORABLE CONVERSATION' WITH INDIAN PLAYERS AT HIS RESIDENCE

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian men’s cricket team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday (July 4) after arriving in India from Barbados. PM Modi congratulated the world No. 1 T20I team for ending India’s 11-year wait for an ICC trophy by winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title.

During the one-hour-long meeting at his residence in Lok Kalyan Marg, PM Modi interacted with Indian captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant, among others.

A couple of hours after meeting the Indian players at his residence, PM Modi took to X to share a couple of pictures and captioned the post, “An excellent meeting with our Champions! Hosted the World Cup winning team at 7, LKM and had a memorable conversation on their experiences through the tournament.”

Roadshow in Mumbai

After meeting Prime Minister Modi at his residence, India players have left for Mumbai, where BCCI has planned an open bus parade in the evening. The victory parade is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. IST at Marine Drive and will conclude at Wankhede Stadium, where Indian players will receive prize money of Rs 125 crore from BCCI secretary Jay Shah during a small function.

India’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2024

India became the first team in T20 World Cup history to win the trophy with a 100%-win record. The Rohit Sharma-led side won all eight matches played in the ninth edition of the shortest format megaevent, which was jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA. India’s win in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 helped Rohit Sharma become the first Indian to win two T20 World Cup winners medals and also the first captain to win 50 T20Is.

After leading India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title, Rohit announced his retirement from T20Is along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.
