COLLEGE FOOTBALL FANS ROASTING COLORADO OVER UPDATED HEISMAN RANKINGS

The Colorado Buffaloes are expected to be one of the most watched and talked-about teams once again in college football in 2024. One reason for this is Colorado's polarizing coach, Deion Sanders, and another is the presence of stars like Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders had an impressive junior season at Colorado, finishing with 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns and only three interceptions on a 69.3% completion percentage. Hunter, the versatile weapon, had 30 tackles, three interceptions and five pass deflections as a cornerback. He also contributed as a wide receiver with 57 catches, 721 yards and five touchdowns.

Even after their impressive first seasons in Boulder, neither Hunter nor Sanders was named one of the top 10 Heisman Trophy contenders by On3's Jesse Simonton on Friday. It became even more surprising to find out that all 10 were quarterbacks, and Sanders, arguably the best quarterback in the upcoming draft, didn't make the list.

Here is his list:

1. Carson Beck, Georgia

2. Quinn Ewers, Texas

3. Dillon Gabriel, Oregon

4. Jalen Milroe, Alabama

5. Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss

6. Cam Ward, Miami

7. Riley Leonard, Notre Dame

8. Nico Iamaleava, Tennessee

9. Will Howard, Ohio State

10. Noah Fifita, Arizona

Simonton mentioned in his article that only two non-quarterbacks have won the award in the last 15 years. He suggested that if a non-quarterback were to win the award this season, it would likely be Hunter due to his versatility.

As you can imagine, fans were quick to roast the Buffs for not having a single player mentioned on the list.

"Shedeur should be top 5," one fan commented, sparking a flurry of responses in disagreement.

"You can’t be top 5 if you can’t win 5 games," a fan replied.

"Based on what ? Putting up numbers against weak teams ? He finished 25th last year in QB standings. Meanwhile the top 5 players play elite teams," another replied.

"Not on a 5 win team," added another.

Simonton never mentions the star quarterback, Sanders. So, it's unclear why he is left off the list. Typically, the Heisman Trophy goes to a player on a team with a good record. Since 2000, no player has won the award with four losses or more in the regular season.

"In what? The stat padding award?" one asked.

Lamar Jackson won the award in 2016, and Tim Tebow won in 2007. Both teams finished with four losses, but the fourth came after winning the Heisman in the bowl game.
