LIONS’ POOL OF UNDER-25 TALENT RANKED SECOND IN NFL

The Detroit Lions aren’t just set up for success this season. They’ve also got one of the best young cores in the league.

Wednesday, ESPN ranked the Lions second in the entire NFL in terms of under-25 talent, and there’s certainly a case that they’re No. 1. No other team in ESPN’s rankings had as many “blue-chip players” as Detroit (five).

The Lions’ notable players listed in the rankings were Penei Sewell, Aidan Hutchinson, Sam LaPorta, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs.

Sewell and St. Brown, of course, each got big extensions this offseason while Hutchinson and LaPorta each still have two more years on their rookie contracts after this coming season and Gibbs has three more.

Brian Branch certainly could’ve been included as well, and ESPN also noted Jack Campbell, Josh Paschal and Jameson Williams as young players who could become big contributors.

The ranking comes a week after CBS Sports listed the same five Lions among its top-25 players ages 25 and under — by far the most of any team in the league.

It may have taken awhile, but the Lions are in prime position to be contenders for years to come.
