TNT ISSUES STATEMENT AFTER CHARLES BARKLEY'S SUDDEN RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Charles Barkley announced on Friday night that next NBA season will be his final one as an analyst.

"I ain't going nowhere other than TNT," Barkley said. "But I have made the decision that, no matter what happens, next year is going to be my last year on television. And I just want to say thank you to my NBA family. You guys have been great to me. My heart is full with joy and gratitude."

On Saturday afternoon, TNT issued a statement regarding Barkley's future.

TNT started its statement by Barkley for being a "broadcasting icon." It then made a comment that suggests he could continue working with the network even after the 2024-25 season.

"Charles is a Hall of Famer and broadcasting icon who is and will always be a beloved member of the TNT Sports family," the statement read. "We’re looking forward to another fantastic NBA on TNT season and further discussion of our future plans with him."

Well, that's interesting. Maybe TNT can work out a deal that allows Barkley to continue appearing on TV but not as often as he does right now.

Although an official announcement hasn't been made yet, it's possible TNT will lose out on a new media rights deal with the NBA. That could open the door for ESPN, NBC and Amazon to make a strong bid.
