LAKERS BEGIN FILLING OUT SUMMER LEAGUE ROSTER WITH MULTIPLE UNDRAFTED FREE AGENT SIGNINGS

The Lakers began the annual tradition of signing undrafted free agents in the hours after Thursday’s 2024 NBA Draft. They began the process by signing Armel Traore, Blake Hinson to two-way contracts before continuing onto Exhibit 10 deals.

As a quick refresher, Exhibit 10 contracts are effectively training camp deals. If the player is cut prior to the regular season, as is almost always the case, there is a bonus for the player to sign with that respective team’s G League side.

The Lakers handed out two such deals in the immediate aftermath of the conclusion of the second round. First, they reportedly agreed to a deal with Sean East II of Missouri.

With the Tigers last season, East scored 17.6 points per game on efficient shooting, hitting 52.1% of his shots overall and 45% of his 2.7 3-pointers per game. East also added four assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

East’s free throw rate of 38.7% indicates how much he excelled at getting to the line as he ranked in the top-20 in free throw attempts. He shot 85.6% at the line.

Along with East, the Lakers also reportedly agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with another guard in Quincy Olivari of Xavier.

Olivari spent four years at Rice before transferring to Xavier last season. He averaged a career-high in points while also adding 5.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He also shot a career-best 42.5% from the field and 40.9% from the 3-point line.

Listed at 6’2”, Olivari is also an undersized point guard. But like East, Olivari got to the line frequently, finishing with a free throw rate of 39.3%. He shot 81.4% from the charity stripe.

The Lakers likely have the backcourt of the team’s Summer League team set, assuming Jalen Hood-Schifino is medically available. Along with JHS, Dalton Knecht, Olivari, East and Maxwell Lewis will all be on the roster.

The story will be updated with more signings, should they be reported in the coming days before the start of Summer League.
