GOLD MEDALIST TAMYRA MENSAH-STOCK MAKES HER TV DEBUT UNDER NEW WWE NAME

WWE recently parted ways with one gold medalist from the 2020 Olympics, but they still have another one. And she wrestled her first match for television at the Level Up tapings last night (July 2) at the WWE Performance Center.

Tamyra Mensah-Stock signed with WWE in May of 2023. She didn’t achieve the goal she set for herself of making the main roster within a year, but she’s made good progress. Mensah-Stock made her in-ring debut at an NXT house show on their Florida “Coconut Loop” this Spring, and now she’ll be on our screens this Friday after wrestling Wren Sinclair at the taping.

The 30 year old, who became the first Black woman to win gold in freestyle wrestling at the Tokyo Games, also wrestled under a new name: Tyra Mae Steele.

Sure enough, yesterday WWE filed a trademark for “Tyra Mae Steele”.

Steele did’t win, but signs point brighter days ahead given the steps she & WWE took on Tuesday.
