MLB ANNOUNCES ITS AL, NL STARTERS FOR 2024 ALL-STAR GAME

MLB revealed the American League and National League starting lineups for this year's All-Star Game on Monday night.

New York Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Juan Soto are one of four pairs of teammates in a stacked AL lineup. MVP candidate Gunnar Henderson, who declared for the Home Run Derby, will make his All-Star Game debut.

Philadelphia Phillies fans voted early and often to give three of their infielders an NL starting spot. That's despite Trea Turner missing nearly half of the season and Bryce Harper currently sidelined.

Here's a look at each league's starting lineup:

American League

  • C: Adley Rutschman, Baltimore Orioles
  • 1B: Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Toronto Blue Jays
  • 2B: José Altuve, Houston Astros
  • 3B: José Ramírez, Cleveland Guardians
  • SS: Gunnar Henderson, Baltimore Orioles
  • OF: Aaron Judge, New York Yankees
  • OF: Juan Soto, New York Yankees
  • OF: Steven Kwan, Cleveland Guardians
  • DH: Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros

National League

  • C: William Contreras, Milwaukee Brewers
  • 1B: Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies
  • 2B: Ketel Marte, Arizona Diamondbacks
  • 3B: Alec Bohm, Philadelphia Phillies
  • SS: Trea Turner, Philadelphia Phillies
  • OF: Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego Padres
  • OF: Christian Yelich, Milwaukee Brewers
  • OF: Jurickson Profar, San Diego Padres
  • DH: Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers

Per FanGraphs, each AL starter leads the league's position in WAR besides Steven Kwan, who narrowly trails Jarren Duran because of a lengthy IL stay. The Guardians outfielder entered Wednesday night's game batting .362 while already hitting a career-high seven home runs.

Every starter has an OPS over .800, so good luck to the National League pitchers on July 16.

Meanwhile, the NL may need to tweak its starting lineup for the Midsummer Classic. While Harper may return from a hamstring injury in time to play, Tatis is also on the injured list with a murkier timeline.

Ohtani played for the AL in the last three All-Star Games, but the phenom changes sides to represent the Dodgers in Texas. Focused exclusively on hitting this season, he's batting .320/.402/.646 in the first year of a record-setting 10-year deal.
