MICHAEL EARLEY ADDRESSES TEXAS A&M’S PORTAL WITHDRAWALS: ‘WE’VE GOT MORE COMING’

Texas A&M has had a big day on Tuesday with several announcements coming out for the baseball program. It’s just the start, though, as Michael Earley, the new head coach in College Station, begins his tenure with the Aggies.

Earley addressed some of the portal decisions from earlier this morning during his introductory press conference this afternoon. He didn’t go into too much detail since they were pretty noteworthy to begin with but said that he completely gets why those players had to reevaluate their positions in the midst of the coaching search.

“I’m not sure if you saw Twitter today but there’s a couple guys who have recommitted to the school. I completely understand and everyone should understand why they got in the transfer portal and why there are still guys in there. It is completely okay. I completely understand and everyone should understand that these guys have to take care and protect themselves.”

“We had a couple big announcements today. I’m not going to say the names but, if you got Twitter, you’ve seen them.”

The news that Earley referred to were the returns by OF Jace LaViolette and 3B Gavin Grahovac. Both withdrew their names from the transfer portal earlier in the day with their former hitting coach getting the promotion.

SS Ali Camarillo and DH/OF Hayden Schott also pulled their names from the portal following the hire.

The trend comes after D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers shared that he expected “every A&M player in the portal to stay put”. That has since started to come true with them retaining some of their roster’s biggest names, especially with LaViolette and Grahovac today as they were among the very best transfers available.

Now, after keeping key players in house down in Aggieland, Texas A&M’s attention will turn to building the other aspects of the program under Earley. That apparently includes bringing even more players back while adding some portal pieces of their own.

“We’ve got more coming. We’ve got more coming,” Earley said.

Earley: Texas A&M Baseball has never been in a better spot

On Sunday, Texas A&M officially named Michael Earley the program’s next head coach.

In an interview with TexAgs, Earley revealed his plans for the Aggies moving forward

“I have been a part of this program and have seen what it takes to be successful. Texas A&M Baseball has never been in a better spot,” Earley said. “The momentum we have? I want to keep that going. I have had a front-row seat. The players were a big part of it.

“There will be things I do differently. The structure we had was really good. The culture we had was really good. I know I was a part of that and I expect to keep it the exact same and always try to make it better. It’s been crazy.”
