CUBS ROSTER MOVES: JAMESON TAILLON, PATRICK WISDOM ACTIVATED FROM INJURED LIST

Even with today’s rainout, the Cubs announced two roster moves, about an hour after the postponement.

First, the Cubs activated Jameson Taillon from the injured list. He was going to start Thursday night’s game. It’s not yet clear whether he’ll start Friday afternoon instead.

Taillon missed all of Spring Training with back issues, though he’s healthy now. He’s made two rehab starts at Triple-A Iowa, which will have to do for his preparation for the season.

Last year, Taillon had a rough beginning to his season, but over his last 16 appearances (15 starts), he posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.103 WHIP, hinting that maybe he can do that again this year. Let’s hope so, the Cubs could use it.

Patrick Wisdom was also activated from the injured list Thursday. He, too, suffered a back injury during Spring Training that limited him to just six spring games, though he did go 6-for-16 with two home runs during those games. In nine games in a rehab stint at Iowa, Wisdom hit .407/.528/.889 (11-for-27) with four doubles and three home runs. Small sample size, but it hints he’s ready to go.

To make room on the 26-man active roster for Taillon and Wisdom, the Cubs made the following moves.

Miles Mastrobuoni was optioned to Iowa. In limited duty so far this year, Mastrobuoni went 0-for-12 with a walk and two runs scored in eight games.

Hayden Wesneski was optioned to Iowa. Wesneski could help this team, especially after his brilliant outing Wednesday in Arizona. After throwing 43 pitches in that game, he might be available to throw an inning or two Saturday — so he might wind up as the 27th man for that day’s doubleheader.

As always, we await developments.
